Who is Jessie’s Girl?
Friday, September 27, 2013Rick Springfield said that he was in a stained glass class with his friend Gary and Gary’s girlfriend in Pasadena. He told Oprah Winfrey “I was never really introduced to her. It was always just, like, panting from afar.”Gary didn't sound as good with the rest of the lyrics so he changed it to Jessie.
Oprah Winfrey tried to discover who she was and got pretty close. They figured out who the teacher of the class was, but when they went looking for him they found out that the teacher had passed away two years previous and the class records were disregarded a year after the death. It was as if Jessie’s girl was never supposed to be discovered. Rick doesn't believe the girl knew she was Jessie’s girl and said “I was completely turned on to his girlfriend, but she was just not interested.”
Now let’s fast forward to 2013. Jessie’s Girl has won Rick a Grammy for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance, been used in multiple movies including 13 Going on 30 and Boogie Nights, been covered on the hit show Glee and peaked at number one on the Australian Kent Music Report and U.S. Billboard Hot 100, to name a few accomplishments.
